Spiritual signs, are they just a coincidence?

On April 29, 2013, a beautiful Monday, I headed to LaGuardia Airport and flew west to Phoenix, where I quickly retrieved a rental car and began my trip north to Sedona, a destination about 2 hours away.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Sedona, it’s a small northern Arizona city, in the mountains just south of Flagstaff. Sedona is most noted for its majestic red-rock mountains. It’s also an energetically charged area due to the proliferation of several vortexes, or energy centers emanating from the earth. The energy here makes Sedona a spiritual destination, and as such it was also noted as a new age or metaphysical mecca.

Ask for a sign, just don’t be surprised when you get an answer!

As I was preparing the drive north on I-17 from the Phoenix airport, my mind was dwelling on the possibility and uncertainty of a move here. Since I was in the habit of talking to ‘Spirit’, I quickly asked for a sign if I was indeed supposed to move here. Immediately, and I do mean that literally, the car radio station that I was tuned into starting playing former American Idol Phillip Phillips’ version of ‘Home”.

Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave is stringing us along
Just know you’re not alone
‘Cause I’m going to make this place your home

Settle down, it’ll all be clear
Don’t pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found

Just know you’re not alone
‘Cause I’m going to make this place your home

Settle down, it’ll all be clear
Don’t pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found

Just know you’re not alone
‘Cause I’m going to make this place your home

An instant later, I glanced at the car in front of me on the highway. My gaze was immediately drawn to its license plate number, which included the numbers ‘55’. I should tell you that I had been ‘seeing’ numbers for about 3 years at that point. Fifty-five was ‘my number’ at that time.

A beautiful friend, Nancy, had introduced me to the concept of spiritual numbers when I lived in Indianapolis. Nancy told me that she couldn’t go out without having her own attention drawn to a couple of repeating numbers. License plates, signs, receipts, temperatures, clock displays, all have a way of giving us messages from Spirit, if you let them.

My number journey began one spring day when Nancy and I were taking a Transcendental Meditation class. That particular day was the day for our one-on-one session with our teacher. Since the sessions took place in a hotel on the edge of town, Nancy and I carpooled. While Nancy headed in for the scheduled appointment first, I headed next door to get lunch at a fast food restaurant. Like most restaurants of this caliber, you order at the counter. After ordering the cashier told me my total was $5.55. As I paid, the cashier handed me a numbered ‘table tent’ so they could deliver my meal to me. My number? You guessed it, was 55!

Having discovered the book ‘Angel Numbers 101” by Doreen Virtue, I learned that 55 means:

This is a period of ‘out with the old, in with the new.’ Welcome these changes, as they will bring about new beginnings.

And so, as I drove north, and with ‘Home’ playing on the radio and a confirmation that change was in process, I knew that I had received the first of many signs that Sedona was to be my new home.
